Health Sciences Institutional Review Board
Touro College’s Health Sciences Institutional Review Board for the Protection of Human Subjects (HSIRB) is an administrative body established to protect the rights and welfare of human research subjects. It is registered with the Federal Office of Human Research Protections (OHRP) and has an approved Federal Wide Assurance (FWA).
All research conducted at the School of Health Sciences, the Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine (Harlem and Middletown campuses), and the Touro College of Pharmacy must first be approved by the HSIRB. The committee determines whether a study is exempt, or should be submitted for expedited or full review.
- All applications must be submitted by a full-time Touro College faculty member, including student projects where the faculty member is the mentor.
- All researchers listed on the application must complete the CITITRAINING certification process, which can be found at: Mandatory Training in the Protection of Human Subjects in Research
- You must fill out an application for a NEW research study and follow the detailed instructions for completing the application.
- You must submit an application for an ONGOING study requiring annual recertification
Applications and supporting documents (e.g., solicitation letters or flyers, informed consent forms, questionnaires) should be sent to: HSIRB@touro.edu.

The HSIRB has the authority to approve, require modifications to, or disapprove all human subjects research activities that fall within its jurisdiction.
