About

The OGC supports Touro College by developing sound legal approaches to address potential legal problems while also addressing existing ones. The OGC strives to remove obstacles that impede the College’s mission. By utilizing its comprehensive knowledge of the law, the OGC attempts to enhance sound independent decision-making, and guards Touro’s reputation and financial interests. Risk avoidance and mitigation is one of the many missions of the OGC.

The OGC serves as the primary gatekeeper for the processing of subpoenas; the preparation and negotiation of contracts and agreements; assisting with faculty, employee, and student disciplinary and grievance matters; and representing Touro College in real estate and other commercial transactions. As necessary, the Office of the General Counsel serves on Touro College committees to provide recommendations regarding applicable legal matters, and assists in the development of policies and procedures to enable Touro College to accomplish its objectives. Additionally, the OGC is responsible for hiring and supervising all persons and firms who render legal advice to the institution, which includes outside counsel. We accomplish our mission through a highly dedicated staff committed to excellence in every aspect of its service to Touro. Individual divisions and programs are not authorized to retain outside counsel, except with the advice and consult, and by and through, the OGC. The OGC is the only entity authorized to retain Outside Counsel on behalf of the College

The purpose of this information is to educate members of the Touro community to the OGC's functions and operations. In so doing, this website informs members of the Touro community of legal matters of importance to them in their role as faculty, staff or students of the College.
